This one really gets me: why do animals play?

There's something to know about the Creator here. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but I'm utterly fascinated by the pervasive sense of play in the animal kingdom.

Could it be that "play" is a human projection on something that may serve a more meaningful purpose? Animals in the wild play in order to hone survival skills. The same can be observed in domesticated animals. Are you asking if there is something more heart-felt to animals playing?

OK, that's a good point, but can all play be attributed to the development of survival skills? I guess the kitty in the video above could be doing that - antagonizing a predator in order to practice running away - but that doesn't appear to be the whole story, especially in light of some of the things I've seen, say, chimps or dolphins do.
